BIG NEWS: met up with Studio Lounak today and it was incredibly fruitful! I really enjoyed meeting everyone there, especially Gautier and Caro, and I learned so many things and was given so many tips (including introducing me to the fantastic Big Cartel online boutiques)... I got really excited. It motivates me so much more to create my project and I hope we can all become good friends in time (or at least help each other out). Found out they are also extremely busy in November! Expozine Montreal is happening on the 14th-15th there's the Rendez-Vous de la BD in Gatineau, QC the 27th, 28th and 29th AND, for the 18th to the 23rd, there's the Salon du livre de Montréal Can't wait to go to all of these!!! So here's the crazy story that happened to me last week: I was approached by a person to illustrate a monthly manga series. I thought "cool! I can do that!" So I asked all the good questions to see if it was legit and if it paid well (and it was and it did) and then I read the script... Had it been a story with love or acceptance at its core, or if it dealt with current social issues and if I could've done it super artsy and experimental, I would've agreed... unfortunately it was full-on stereotypical hentai, and though my wallet screamed for it, I just couldn't bend my values to it and I refused. And I think I did the right thing... but my wallet is not happy... Here's the lesson in this story: I should not stray from projects with subject matters and morals that I value, and I should remember calmly that I made the decision after 3 years of teaching hell that I would rather be poor and happy than rich and miserable.
