Got the Back-from-Mexico blues. It feels so cold outside and my knee is hurting from the humidity here. I tried to get back in the beat of work as soon as I came back but I forgot all my materials at the studio and ended up just answering emails.
Mexico was amazing. I didn’t end up being as sick as I expected from my past history with the place and I saw many inspiring things! Best of all, the Frida Kahlo museum. The blue house was filled with remnants from her life and her art. It really put certain things into perspective for me. This is a woman of elegance, character, and joy, who struggled with horrible physical pain all her life, and found a great balance between her life and her paintings. She painted her weakness for the world to see and and showed the rest through her everyday actions. It made me feel like not only is my art on the right track, but also humbled me a little. I like to complain a lot. I’m sensitive to everything, and I should use it to do something productive instead of being pessimistic and not doing something about it. I learned a lot from Frida, and I’m back with so much more determination to make good comics!!!!
In the meantime, I’ll be at the Comic Con in Montreal from July 7th to 9th and I’ll be part of 2 conferences on Friday: one about well-being and one about crowdfunding. I should have my new owl enamel pins and I’ll try to have some t-shirts figured out. I have a few I ideas I think are pretty cool… what do you all think?
...And I’ll try to finish all my graphic design contracts nice and quick so I can get on with Zen!!!
