I went to two very awesome exhibitions, one by Arianna Garcia Fialdinni who studied art ed at Concordia at the same time as me and turned to the issues surrounding women in Mexican society, and the fantastic David Altmedj who had a solo show at the MAC until last weekend and whose works using various "movie set" type of materials depict a certain metamorphosis of something deep inside people...
I also tackled my self-assigned summer project this week: the renovation and weatherproofing of the balcony's mosaic table. It took longer than expected and helped me develop certain skills by playing with new materials. It was an exciting discovery though I pity the table because, in fact, I basically used it as a guinea pig for future projects... sorry!
To top all this off, I received a commission to create a series of cat-specific postcards specifically for the Cat Cafe on St-Denis. Excited to start work on those!
Speaking of St-Denis... I picked up my mug from the Ceramic Cafe yesterday. It was such a cool experience to get to choose from so many models and take my time painting my mug just like I wanted. The variety of colors is surprising and they have many tools to inspire creation! Just one tip: don't forget to sign the bottom AND take a picture of your piece before you send it off for the firing: it makes it much easier to identify later.
One last note of importance: Montreal is gorgeous. And cycling along the Old Port every day really makes me realize just to what extent that is true... Can't wait to be painting these beauties soon!
