Visited the wonderful Expozine for the first time last weekend. It was like a miniature version of TCAF with a bit more of an emphasis on writing. I met Salgood Sam, whom I had just learned about through my internet research while looking for a mentor. He seems similar to me in his stubborn "I don't do shit I don't want to do" kind of way. We're on our way to organizing for private classes in his studio :) I met the amazing animator Jen Kiakas as well as Kristy Boivert who recently started her own company and creates lovely coloring books out of a wonderful array of paper. I also ran into the "Cabtastic" Caro and Gautier Langevin (co-creator of the awesome Far Out comic: robots in... the Wild West!) from Studio Lounak and met an associate comic artist of theirs: Michel Falardeau. Such cool people! I went to the vernissage of the Salon du Livre de Montréal last night and drooled at the wide array of books about science, horror, mystery, children's, art, nature, etc. Visited Studio Lounak's booth (#224 if you're interested), and drooled some more at the Taschen art book collection. Finally, as my first official homework from my mentor, I signed up for... shamefully... a Twitter account. Now I'm a tweeter, sort of against my will. I resisted for so long on the basis that I didn't know how it worked, but deep inside, I really just didn't like the idea of having another wall-full of "facebook statuses". Turns out I was partially correct in that some people post some meaningless things, however, I'm discovering that Twitter offers a possibility of wide coverage and direct communication that I could definitely use for my artist career. Therefore, I am inviting you to add me to your Twitter feed @laurenceofdawn. #itwasonlyamatteroftime PS: Don't forget tonight's Album Launch by Xania and accompanying live painters!!! Hope to see you at Casa at 8 :) |
