I went to Toronto last weekend to drop off some books for consignment and it went really well. The Page & Panel, the official TCAF store was beautiful and well-organized, and I found I got along with the employees there really well. I also saw they had the first issue of Steven Universe and I just had to… I visited The Beguiling afterwards and loved it there too. It was a completely different feel, very independent and I loved the collection of zines and small-print things at the front of the store. Please go visit! It’s worth a look.
Monday was the Alternative Media, Book & Print fair at the Concordia University EV Building’s lobby. I was surrounded by other artists and really enjoyed chatting with my neighbor, Keenan, who was into the paper-making business, is into the book-binding business, and is happens to also make zines and children’s books. He’s launching his second one, which was translated in Inuktitut, on April 1st at The Bookbinder’s Daughter in the East end of town.
Zen and the ephemeral, and Homeward are both moving slowly forward, and I’m also working on the Porchfest posters and a coloring job (flats). I’ve got a few other people interested in having me do some illustrations for them but I have to start saying no. Unfortunately, I want to do everything, because I love it all, but I don’t have enough time and energy…
Also, I had a meeting today with the owners of the Art Lounge near the studio and it looks like i’ll be giving workshops there for families about making non-toxic and affordable art at home. It’ll be on certain Saturdays, and I’m really excited to get my hand messy and explore materials with the kids!
