- Making Comics by Scott McCloud: This is the most complete and versatile gathering of important information regarding the creation of a comic itself. Describes panel decisions and character and setting construction that everyone should use, and a great essay section about the meaning of comic books and their cultural upbringing (if that makes any sense)...
- The Complete Guide to Self-Publishing by Comfort & Adam: The first part of this book was disappointing because it described how to use digital techniques for comic creation with a specific technique with specific programs, however, I really dove into the second part about publishing and marketing. I found that although this information is more tailored to artists in the USA, much of it are little tricks of the trade applicable to anyone trying to make it in the comics business today.
- Foundations in Comic Book Art by John Paul Lowe: This book taught me a whole new way to draw! Its basic information regarding drawing techniques for creating solid settings and character placement was priceless. It also had great information on materials that are basic, necessary, and cheap! This is clearly for the broke beginner with a fine arts background :) Perfect!
Also, I went to the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts to see the Canadian Modern Art exhibition and I couldn't resist turning Prudence Heward's Sisters of Rural Quebec into pugs :)
